Dust
“Dust” by Mike Grier, produced by Ember Lab, is a magnificently directed fantasy film that narrates the struggle for the survival of its protagonist Masashi Odate (Last Samurai, Letters from Iwo Jima) in a desolate world, mixing fantasy and science fiction with a wonderful elegance. This work, with impeccable visual effects and a beautiful photograph by Michael Nie that supports a beautiful art direction by Eoin Colgan, is probably one of the best short films we have shared through this page.
“Dust” de Mike Grier, producido por Ember Lab, es una fantasía magníficamente dirigida que narra la lucha por la supervivencia de su protagonista Masashi Odate (Last Samurai, Letters from Iwo Jima) en un mundo desolado, mezclando lo fantástico y la ciencia ficción con una elegancia maravillosa. Este trabajo, con unos impecables efectos visuales y una preciosa fotografía a cargo de Michael Nie que arropa una dirección de arte, de Eoin Colgan, muy cuidada es posiblemente uno de los mejores cortometrajes que han pasado por esta página.
Voldemort. Origins of the heir
This week, one of the most expected films by Harry Potter saga fans has been finally released: “Voldemort: Origins of the Heir“. Directed by Gianmaria Pezzato, this is more than a fan film; it’s a project that has taken years and which has been possible thanks to a crowfunding campaign, resulting in an impeccable work. It’s a spectacular display of talent and a laudable effort in many senses, taking into account that Warner’s only help was to transfer the characters‘ rights, as long as the movie crew didn’t get any economic benefit from it in return. But that didn’t stop these people and here they are, ready to give us nearly an hour of magic and enjoyment.
Esta semana ha salido a la luz uno de los cortometrajes más esperados por los fanas de la fantasía y de la saga de Harry Potter. “Voldemort: Origins of the Heir” de Gianmaria Pezzato es un más que fan film con una factura impresionante, un trabajo de años para levantar, con ayuda del crowfunding, un despliegue espectacular en muchos sentidos y un trabajo encomiable, teniendo en cuenta que el único apoyo de Warner ha sido ceder los derechos de los personajes a cambio de no sacar beneficio de la película, algo que no ha frenado a este equipo que nos deja cerca de una hora de magia y disfrute.

With such a peculiar title, this short film quickly catches our attention. The Taiwanese female director Kerry Yang brings us Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Mortal Kombat, Hawai 5.0, The Planet of the Apes) and James Hong (Blade Runner, Big Trouble in Little China) in this incredible short film, as a final project for the USC School of Cinematic Arts. This impeccable short film shows the Mongolian warrior reflecting on himself.
Con un título como “Genghis Khan conquista la luna” es inevitable que atraiga nuestra atención. La directora taiwanesa Kerry Yang dirige a Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Mortal Kombat, Hawai 5.0, El planeta de los simios) y a James Hong (Bladerunner, Golpe en la pequeña china) en un increíble cortometraje creado como proyecto final en la USC School of Cinematic Arts. Magistral dirección en un trabajo de factura impecable, que pone al guerrero mongol en la tesitura de reflexionar sobre… si mismo.

Gremlins:recall
In Me Gustan Cortos we are “retro” fans, so it’s easy for you to figure out how much we have enjoyed “Gremlins: recall“, by Ryan Patrick. A great short film whose story takes place some time after the feature films. Avoiding the digital effects in order to use animatronics and original settings, Ryan formidably directs an amazing tribute to these famous characters. A delightful work for those who still love them.
En Me gustan cortos somos muy fans de lo retro así os podéis imaginar lo mucho que nos ha gustado “Gremlins: recall” de Ryan Patrick. Un magnífico cortometraje ambientado tiempo después de los largometrajes. Evitando los efectos digitales en pos del uso de animatronics y una cuidada ambientación, Ryan dirige de manera formidable un alucinante homenaje a los famosos personajes. Un cortometraje que hará las delicias de todos los que aún sigan disfrutando de ellos.

Today we have discovered a short film that is one of the best we have ever shared with you, no doubt. “The Ningyo“, by Miguel Ortega and co-created with Tran Ma, is a majestic work in every aspect –although we have to highlight the stunning art direction and FX. All the short film was filmed in a unique room where all the sets are recreated, as you can see in the making of we share with you, too. A proof of concept that, luckily, will go far.
Hoy hemos descubierto un cortometraje que, sin duda, es uno de los mejores que hemos compartido con vosotros, “The Ningyo” de Miguel Ortega, co creado con Tran Ma es un trabajo magistral en todos los aspectos, sobresaliendo la impresionante dirección de arte y efectos visuales, todo el corto se filma en una sola estancia donde se recrean casi todas las localizaciones como podéis ver en el making of que también compartimos. Una prueba de concepto que, esperamos, se convierta e…n algo más.
